The Reading FC Former Players’ Association are delighted to announce An Evening With Steve Sidwell on Thursday 29 February 2024, at the Tilehurst British Legion Club.

HOSTED BY BBC RADIO BERKSHIRE AND FORMER READING FC WELSH INTERNATIONAL ADY WILLIAMS.

The event will give fans a unique opportunity to meet, and put questions to, former Reading FC midfielder Steve Sidwell. Steve spent over four years with the Royals after joining the club in January 2003 from Arsenal, making his Reading debut against Leicester City and going on to make 187 appearances, scoring 30 goals.

Steve was a key part of Reading’s 2005/2006 season team, that saw the Royals earn promotion to the Premier League with a record breaking 106 points. In the club’s first ever top tier match Sidwell’s goal before half time was vital as Reading came from behind to beat Middlesbrough 3-2. As 2007 got underway the Royals went on an eight game unbeaten run in all competitions, that included seven wins, culminating in a 2-0 home league victory against Aston Villa. Sidwell scored both goals in front of a capacity crowd and Reading climbed to sixth in the table.

Steve left Reading for Chelsea when his contract expired in July 2007 and went on to play for Aston Villa, Fulham, Stoke City and Brighton. He made 45 appearances for Aston Villa and 92 for Fulham, but it was Reading where Steve had his longest stay, most appearances, and arguably his most successful time in his playing career during a golden era for Reading Football Club.
