Former West Ham United defender Keith McPherson won an FA Youth Cup winners medal with the club in 1981 but only made one League appearance for “The Hammers” before moving onto Northampton Town.
He joined “The Cobblers” for £15,000 in January 1986 and made 216 appearances for them before leaving in August 1990, to come to Elm Park.
Manager Ian Porterfield signed McPherson after he impressed when scoring twice against Reading in previous visits to Elm Park with Northampton.
Keith played his part in Reading’s success in the mid-1990’s helping the club to the Division Two title in 1993/94 and in the Division One Play-off Final campaign of 1994/95.
After spending nine years at Reading and making over 300 League and Cup appearances, he moved onto Brighton and Hove Albion before finishing his career back in Berkshire with Slough Town.
