Gordon played for Reading between 1969 and 1977. His primary position was as a winger. He scored 61 goals in 331 games.

Signed by Manager Jack mansell, Gordon proved a key player in his "pass and move" side of the late Sixties. He was voted Reading's Player of the Year by the Reading supporters in 1971–72.

Gordon kept his place in the side when Mansell was replaced by Charlie Hurley in 1972 and he played in the team that won Reading's first promotion for 50 years in 1976.
