Will enjoyed a succesful youth career at Arsenal but with little chance of progression to the first team he moved to Reading. Initially, on a two month loan deal which ended in him making more appearances than any other member of the Elm Park squad, he signed permently in July 1969.

He bacame a first team regular up to March 1973, occasionally being used in midfield, from where he scored his only goal for Reading in their 1972-73 FA Cup win at Gillingham.

He enjoyed probably the greatest display of his Elm Park career when he marked the great George Best out of the game against Manchester United in the Watney Cup tie in 1970.

After 171 appearances for Reading he joined neighbours Swindon Town in 1973.
